Steps on How to Create a Successful LinkedIn® firm Profile

Over the past ten years, LinkedIn® has become the social media platform of choice for professional networking. It provides free, instant ability to connect with clients, potential clients, and colleagues. It is important for attorneys to embrace and understand the potential to more effectively communicate with their clients and potentially gain new ones while adhering to firm wide regulations and standards of conduct that reflect the nature of the firm.

A firm’s LinkedIn® company page is an extension of the website.  All updates to the website should be communicated in some capacity on the LinkedIn®  company page.

  1. Add a cover image. Whenever possible, incorporate a cover-slide that incorporates your brand such as an image from an advertising campaign.
  2. Upload the firm’s logo
  3. Include a link to the firm’s website
  4. If you have a blog, link to the blog to drive traffic on the blog.
  5. Promote your LinkedIn® company page on your website, newsletters, blogs, other social networks, email signatures and all electronic marketing materials by adding a LinkedIn “follow us” icon.
  6. Encourage all employees to complete profiles and to follow the page.
  7. Drive traffic and followers to your page
  • Add content: The more content you contribute, the more likely people will follow. Add content that is useful and relevant.
  • Use the update function to distribute newsletters and communicate major accomplishments in terms of rankings or big public wins.
  •  Encourage employees to promote the page by sharing any updates and “liking” all updates.
  • Add a  “follow us” icon to your website, all email signatures, and all marketing pieces.
